The 9.5 am publication derived its title from the practice of giving civil servants 5 minutes grace after 9am to sign the attendance book before a red line was ruled to identify late-comers. Source: Press, 13 May 1903. The magazine was edited by Johannes Andersen when he was employed as a clerk at the Lands and Survey Department, Christchurch office. F M B Fisher was also employed as a clerk there at the same time, and contributed to the publication.
