Description

Two bound volumes of 'The 9.5 am' (No 1, Feb 1902 - Vol 2 No 11, Dec 1903).

Each volume contains issues of the '9.5 am' magazine, edited by Johannes Andersen. Comprises typewritten text of the magazine, with photographs, original drawings, printed illustrations (and newspaper clippings) from other publications pasted in. The content includes articles, cartoons, jokes, poems, and excerpts.

The 9.5 am publication derived its title from the practice of giving civil servants 5 minutes grace after 9am to sign the attendance book before a red line was ruled to identify late-comers. Source: Press, 13 May 1903. The magazine was edited by Johannes Andersen when he was employed as a clerk at the Lands and Survey Department, Christchurch office. F M B Fisher was also employed as a clerk there at the same time, and contributed to the publication.
