Poster advertising a motion picture about prisoners of war of the Japanese, filmed in Auckland and Rarotonga, shows portrait illustrations of actors David Bowie, Tom Conti, Ryuchi Sakamoto, Takeshi and Jack Thompson before a background of palm trees silhouetted against the red and white radiating stripes of the Japanese flag as the sky. The hilt and shaft of a dagger stands in the centre of the group of faces.
According to the book 'New Zealand Film 1912-1996' by Helen Martin and Sam Edwards, the film "was financed by New Zealand, British and Japanese money channelled through New Zealand's Broadbank."
New Zealand director Lee Tamahori worked as First Assistant Director on this film. New Zealand composer Stephen McCurdy wrote the Brother's song, "Ride ride ride" sung by David Bowie.
