Description: Printed circular with the heading 'The Polynesian Society', by Stephenson Percy Smith, dated 41 Tinakori Road, Wellington, 19 June 1891. Circular outlines the "proposed objects and scheme of the Society" in a list of 16 points, defines the intended extended meaning of the term "Polynesian", and makes reference to the Asiatic Society. The printed circular is annotated with the names of ten members (J Stack, J N Broderick [Brodrick?], C E Nelson, A Shand, J N Tone, E C Major, W E Gudgeon, Elsdon Best, R Fletcher, and W J Habens) and their financial contribution, some with dates of receipt. Also list of expenses and date incurred, including stamps, envelopes, and printing of circular. Physical Description: Bifolium, letterpress on laid paper with "Spicer Brothers" watermark, annotated in ink and pencil, 25.5 x 41 cm.
