Edward Wingfield Humphreys was a barrister fron Wales. When he first came to New Zealand he settled on the Taieri Plains. He represented Christchurch in the House of Representatives from 1889 to 1890, and was re-elected in 1893. He married Alice Hawdon on the 21st of April 1869 in Christchurch.
