Low scrub in the foreground, with a drive leading to fenced fields, where cattle are grazing. The Waimate North Mission Station is on the skyline in the centre background, and a distinctive volcanic cone, Puke Nui, or Te Ahuahu, is on the right, beyond other buildings
Probably the original for an engraving by J. W. Whymper in A. S. Thomson's 'The story of New Zealand' (London, 1853), vol 1 p. 330 (Photograph in photo files as negative 119205 1/2)
