Sample extracts from an unpublished typescript of a personal and social history of Round Hill and its environs. Round Hill was reputed to have had the largest settlement of Chinese miners in New Zealand in the 19th century, with approximately 500 miners in the 1870s.

Round Hill, in Clutha District, was a gold mining centre in the late 19th and early 20th centuries with a substantial Chinese community. Wilson's father was manager of the Round Hill Gold Mining Company for 46 years.
