- Description
A man, two women and children stand outside one of McCallum and Co's sawmill houses, Southland Region. In the centre is a baby in a wicker pram. On the right a boy holds the reins of a horse. A dog lies in the foreground. Taken by an unidentified photographer in 1889.
"The roof of this cottage is made from bark sheets, held in place by a system of long horizontal poles supported from the ridge by "saddle poles". These prevented the sheets from curling up again into their natural shapes." (Information taken from caption used in "Darling, I'm home!" display).
Exhibited in 'Darling, I'm Home!' exhibition at the National Library of New Zealand, 1 June - 5 July 1999.
