McVilly, Richard William, 1861-1949

General manager of Railways Department. Born in Dunedin; joined Railways Department 1879; became Chief Clerk, General Manager's Office 1908; General Manager 1919-1924. Also first secretary of the New Zealand Railway Officers' Institute 1895. Managing director of Black and White Cabs 1926, and member of Wellington City Council 1927-1929. Involved in administration of Wellington and national sporting bodies, especially athletics, boxing and rowing. Died in Wellington.
