Description: Mainly portraits in the form of cabinet cards, with some carte de visite, other small mounted photographs, and snapshots by New Zealand and Australian photographers. The collection seems to have belonged to Clara Hilda Linney (b 1879 in Christchurch, New Zealand). She was the youngest child of John Calivin Linney (b 1831, Bedworth, Warwick, England), and Lucy Jean Linney (nee Chapman, born 1837, Hobart, Tasmania). John and Lucy married on the 16th of April 1863 in Richmond, Melbourne, Australia. They must have moved to Wellington some time in the 1890s as photographs of Hilda in 1898 are by a Wellington photographer. John Calvin Linney died 31 May 1910 at his home, no 32 Scarborough Terrace, Wellington, New Zealand. Lucy Jean was alive at the time of his death. His death notice states that he was the father of Mrs H J Barraclough of 13 Myrtle Crescent, Wellington, which may be Hilda's married name, the initials being those of her husband. The photographers in the collection indicate connections between people in Tasmania, Melbourne, and New Zealand. Only some have accompanying information, and most of the names recorded are first names or nicknames. (Information from this collection and from a web site \"Chapman & Linney by Milton Froggatt\"). Quantity: 58 b&w original photographic print(s).
