Laishley, Richard, 1815-1890

Minister in the Congregational Church, and artist. Life dates taken from Dictionary of New Zealand Biography / Scholefield (1940). Unpreferred dates taken from Australian Joint Copying Project (Micro-MS-Coll-20-2828). Trained as an artist in London with LeCocq, a former pupil of engraver Bartolozzi. Arrived in Auckland, 1861 on the Caduceus with wife and family, and was appointed to a position in Auckland by the Congregational Missionary Society. He settled in Onehunga, moving to Melbourne in 1868, then returning to Thames, New Zealand, in 1874. Father of Auckland lawyer, Richard Laishley (1844-1907).
