Doctor, public health administrator. Born in Arbroath, Scotland; trained as a doctor in Scotland and Belgium. Practised in England, then came to New Zealand 1895 on account of his health. Practiced in Otaki; appointed Chief Health Officer for New Zealand 1900-1909, after which resumed private practice. During World War I served overseas as a surgeon with the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel. Also qualified in law. See DNZB (Vol 3, 1901-1920, p335-336, M46)
