Retired journalist and writer; biographer of Captain William Mein Smith. Born Carterton, 27 Dec 1915; Lawrence was educated at Carterton Primary School, Wairarapa High School in Masterton and at the University of Auckland. He wrote "Three Mile Bush", an early history of the Wairarapa when he was 18 in 1934. The next year his novel "Vulcan Lane" was published by the Unicorn Press. He worked for various publications and advertising agencies in Auckland, Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne and Wellington, 1934-1966. He was on active service with the RNZAF, 1939-1945 and was with the British High Commission in Wellington, 1966-1974.
