Clerk, poet, ethnologist, librarian, editor, historian. First Chief Librarian, Alexander Turnbull Library; broad interests included writing, poetry, birdsong, bibliography and printing. Born Klakring, Denmark, 14 Mar 1873; arrived Lyttelton on vessel `Gutenberg' with parents Jorgen and Johanne Andersen, Oct 1874; married Catherine Anne McHaffie, 9 May 1900; they had two sons, Hrolf and Sigurd; he died 19 Jun 1962, Auckland.
