- Laishley, Richard, 1816-1897; Ryan, Thomas, 1864-1927
Recto: Head & shoulders portrait of Te Kooti and smaller portrait of an unidentified man (although he is most probably Te Kooti, also, wearing a hat with its brim turned up at the front).
Formerly attributed to Richard Laishley. However it is more likely to be the work of Thomas Ryan who was present at Tama te Kopua in 1887, when te Kooti was addressing Rotorua Maori. Ruyan drew Te Kooti in profile (see A-114-004-1 - Te Kooti or Turuki addressing Rotorua natives in 1887' - on the other side of this sheet). Ryan is very likely to have produced this drawing as well. The handwriting and style of drawing both appear to be Ryan's
