Two series of files have been filmed: Series I, containing bibliographies, archival sources, chronologies, lists of missionaries; the Jesuit Mission on the Marianas and Guam; The Spanish Capuchins in the Carolines 1885-1905, and in the Gilberts, Marshalls and Nauru. Series II, containing the documentation of Catholic missions in Micronesia in the 20th Century.
Most of the early documents in the series are photocopies from Jesuti and Capuchin archives in Europe and elsewhere, together with English translations of some Spanish and Latin originals.
There are more recent original documents, such as church statistics, mission station reports, the `Mission Bulletin', house diaries, records of the Mercedarian Sisters, and accounts of World War II experiences as well as unpublished manuscripts on the history of the mission.

While Fr Hezel was studying theology at Woodstock College, Maryland, in the late 1960s, he inherited books that young Jesuits who had returned from Micronesia studied for their return to the islands. During 1968, Fr Hezel was admitted into the East-West Centre Programme where he took courses in Pacific history and wrote a bibliographic essay on the history of the Catholic Church's engagement in Micronesia, which was published in the `Journal of Pacific History' (Vol 5 1970). Fr Hezel became motivated to find still more about church activities in the islands. The result can be found in his files in the Micronesian Seminar Library.
