Jack Body's collection comprises music scores and recordings of his compositions plus personal papers which include his educational certificates and music awards, essays and other writings, official documents, correspondence dealing with musical matters, with family and also with Douglas Lilburn. There are also scrapbooks of concerts and events attended; programmes and posters
Papers also include working files for various composition projects, organising festivals, events and recordings, as well as for overseas travel.
A large portion of sound and video recordings are from field work in China, later used in the making of the documentary Big Nose and Body Music. Other recordings are of interviews, and compositions by Jack Body and other New Zealand composers.

- One copy of unrestricted materials may be taken for research purposes only. No copies may be taken for publication or any public or commercial use without written permission of Jack Body's trustee(s); in some cases the permission of the Chief Librarian must also be obtained. May photocopy any of Jack Body's scores for the Music Archive at the University of Canterbury, if required (TL 2/8/2/3 6 Mar 1980).
