Rhys Richards is a former diplomat who has written widely about Pacific maritime history before 1850.

He will speak about the Austral Islands, which lie south of Tahiti in French Polynesia and are the French half of the Cook Islands submarine mountain range, known for their distinctive traditional woodcarvings.
