Precious taonga – Curator for the day

Date: Monday 5 October 2020, 9:30am to 12:30pm
Cost: Free. RSVP required.

What precious taonga do you have in your kāinga? Why are these items special to you? There are many different things that make a taonga precious. As the keepers of some of Aotearoa New Zealand’s most precious objects, National Library and Wellington Museum want to share a special experience of how we collect, care for, and curate our local and national taonga.

Find out what it’s like to be a curator

‘Precious Taonga - Curator for the Day’ whānau programme will begin at Wellington Museum and finish at the National Library.

At Wellington Museum we will explore their precious collection and discuss how we cherish taonga behind the scenes.

A guided walking tour uncovering the taonga of the Wellington Waterfront will take you to the National Library of New Zealand. There, explore the Precious exhibition, challenge yourself with our new Precious activity book and go on a scavenger hunt through the He Tohu exhibition.

Bring a photo of your precious object

Put your creative thinking hat on, come with your whānau, bring a photo of your precious object — become a curator for the day!
