Our music collections
We have several different collections that you can use in various ways:
The Alexander Turnbull Library collection consists of two major parts.
- New Zealand Music, Sound, Audio-visual collection includes music published in New Zealand.
- The Archive of New Zealand Music includes unpublished music materials such as manuscript scores, personal papers and organisations’ archives.
The National Library collection includes music published both in New Zealand and overseas.
- The Reference collection includes many specialist items such as encyclopaedias, dictionaries, repertoire guides, bibliographies, thematic catalogues and discographies. It also includes access to a number of music databases, including Oxford Music Online and RILM. You need to come to the Wellington Reading Rooms to use these items.
- The General Lending collection contains scores (including parts), books, magazines, sound recordings, DVDs, instrumental tutors and many other items. You can ask your local library to interloan these items from us.
